This session will look at some practical ways SLPs can approach articulation errors in children, with a focus on the “late-eight” sounds. Participants will learn how the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) can serve as a guide to structure therapeutic approaches and assist in clinical problem solving. Participants will learn about relevant tools and placement techniques that can be used to address commonly misarticulated phonemes. The session will also review principles of motor learning as they can be applied to speech therapy and guide session planning. Helpful resources and references from other SLPs in the field will be shared so that participants leave the session with a “toolbox” of ideas and techniques that they can begin to immediately implement with their caseloads.
